Things to do in Sopot

Sopot, despite its small size, offers a surprising variety of attractions ranging from natural beauty to architectural gems and unique cultural experiences.

Sopot Pier

1Plac Zdrojowy 2, 81-723 Sopot, Poland

The Sopot Pier (Molo w Sopocie) is undoubtedly the city’s most iconic attraction. At 511 metres long, it is the longest wooden pier in Europe and offers a breathtaking walkway over the Baltic Sea. Originally built in 1827 and extended over the years, the pier is the beating heart of Sopot.

Walking along its wooden planks, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Bay of Gdańsk and the city itself. At sunset, the spectacle becomes particularly impressive, with the sun dipping into the horizon tinging the sky with pinkish hues.

The pier also houses a small marina and harbour, where it is possible to rent boats or participate in short cruises along the coast. During the summer, the surrounding area comes alive with concerts, cultural events and stalls selling souvenirs and local specialities.

Monte Cassino Street

Monte Cassino Street, known affectionately by locals as ‘Monciak’, is the main artery and the beating heart of Sopot’s social life. This lively pedestrian street connects the railway station to the pier, running through the centre of the city.

Lined with elegant Art Nouveau buildings and modern boutiques, the street offers a unique shopping experience. Fashion shops, art galleries, jewellery shops and souvenir shops can be found here. But it is not only shopping that makes this street special.

Monte Cassino Street is also the centre of Sopot’s nightlife, with numerous bars, cafés and restaurants offering local and international cuisine. During the summer, the street comes alive with street performers, musicians and a cosmopolitan crowd that creates a festive and welcoming atmosphere.

An unmissable landmark is the statue of the ‘Fisherman’ at the intersection with Bohaterów Monte Cassino Street, a popular place to take souvenir photos.

Crooked House (Krzywy Domek)

3Bohaterów Monte Cassino 53, 81-767 Sopot, Poland

One of the most bizarre and photographed buildings in Sopot is definitely the Krzywy Domek, or ‘Crooked House’. Located on Monte Cassino Street, this surreal building looks like something out of a storybook or a painting by a Cubist artist.

Designed by architects Szotyńscy & Zaleski and completed in 2004, the building is inspired by the drawings of the famous illustrator Jan Marcin Szancer and painter Per Dahlberg. Its undulating lines and distorted windows create a striking optical effect that defies perception and attracts the attention of anyone passing by.

Despite its extravagant appearance, the Casa Storta houses shops, cafés and even a shopping centre inside. You can enter and explore the interior, which continues the ‘crooked’ theme with undulating floors and curved walls.

Grand Hotel

4Powstancow Warszawy St 12, Pomorskie, 81-718 Sopot, Poland

The Grand Hotel in Sopot is more than just a luxury hotel: it is a true symbol of the city and a piece of living history. Inaugurated in 1927, this majestic Belle Époque-style building has hosted numerous celebrities and prominent personalities over the years, from Marlene Dietrich to Charles de Gaulle.

Situated in a privileged location overlooking the sea and the pier, the Grand Hotel is distinguished by its white façade and elegant architecture. Even if you are not staying here, it is worth a visit to admire the sumptuous interior and breathe in the atmosphere of a bygone era.

The hotel’s restaurant and bar are open to the public and offer a fine dining experience in a refined ambience. During the summer, the terrace overlooking the sea is a perfect place for a sunset aperitif.

Sopot Beach

5Plaża Sopot, Aleja Franciszka Mamuszki 2, Sopot, Poland

The Sopot beach is undoubtedly one of the city’s main attractions. With its golden sand stretching for over 4 kilometres, it offers ample space for relaxation, fun and outdoor activities.

During the summer, the beach comes alive with swimmers, sportsmen and families. You can rent deckchairs and umbrellas, take part in beach volleyball matches, or simply enjoy the sun and sea. The water, although cool, is clean and safe for swimming.

Along the beach are numerous sand bars and cafes, perfect for a refreshing drink or snack. For sports enthusiasts, there are opportunities for windsurfing, kitesurfing and stand-up paddle boarding.

At sunset, the beach offers a breathtaking spectacle as the sun dips into the Baltic Sea, creating a romantic and atmospheric atmosphere.

Northern Park (Park Północny)

6Powstańców Warszawy 81, Sopot, Poland

The Northern Park is an oasis of greenery in the heart of Sopot, perfect for a relaxing walk or an outdoor picnic. This vast park stretches over 33 hectares between the city centre and the beach, providing a pleasant contrast to the surrounding urban environment.

The park is characterised by shady paths, flower-filled meadows and a rich variety of tree species, some of them centuries old. A distinctive feature is the stream that runs through the park, creating a relaxing sound environment and attracting a variety of birds and small animals.

There are also several attractions within the park, including an open-air amphitheatre that hosts summer concerts, a children’s playground and several sculptures and art installations.

For history buffs, the park also houses the remains of an ancient Slavic settlement from the 9th-10th centuries, offering an interesting glimpse into the region’s past.
