Poland occupies a strategic geographical position that has made it a protagonist of numerous historical events. Bordering as many as seven countries, this country is an important crossroads between Eastern and Western Europe.
In the north, Poland’s coastline faces the Baltic Sea for about 440 kilometres, offering beautiful beaches and important ports such as Gdansk, Gdynia and Szczecin.
The eastern border is shared with Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine, while to the south the country is bordered by the Carpathian and Sudeten mountain ranges, which create a natural border with the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
To the west, Poland borders Germany, with the Oder River acting as a natural border for much of the way.
The capital Warsaw lies almost in the geometric centre of the country, about 300 km from the Baltic Sea and the Carpathians.
